Not Your Typical Christmas Stockings

1 Dec

Merry Christmas Everyone!

This Christmas I decided to make my own Christmas Stockings to decorated my home. I did not want traditional stockings that you can buy at the store. I wanted something unique to hang on my fireplace. With this thought in mind, I decided to sell some of my creations in my etsy shop to see other peoples thoughts on them.

leopard

This leopard stocking is perfect for the animal print lover in your household.  This stocking will  definitely make a statement on your fireplace. This stocking  is also lined to make the stocking extra sturdy. The beading on the front also  gives the stocking a little more piazza.

Chicken

Where the leopard stocking is more contemporary, the rooster stocking  is great for a country family. The colors in this Christmas stocking are similar to the traditional Christmas colors of red and green but the roosters on the stocking makes it a little more fun. This stocking has a brush trim instead of the beads to give this stocking a little added texture.

I hope that these stockings help families create a unique Christmas that fits them. I only have a few stockings in my shop this year but hope to add more to my shop in the future.

Merry Christmas,

Dog Bandanas

2 Sep

I have been out of the lope for a while with blogs but decided to write about one of my newest creations.

bandana 2

This was a Pinterest  idea I discovered for using up all of my small scraps of fabric. I am going to start making dog bandanas for all times of seasons, such as Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and more!!

buddyPost suggestions on what you think would be the most popular doggie bandana, I would love to see what my followers think.

My dog bandanas allow your furry friend to have their own personality. Through my use of different colors, patterns , and designs, you will know you are getting a one of a kind handmade dog bandana. Don’t forget that these bandanas are great gifts too, especially for the holidays.

Each of the bandanas is made to go around the collar of your dog. This helps your furry friend not to lose their dog bandana in the yard or house.

Feature Seller – Fat Dog Beads

15 Jan

I am a married mom and grandmom (with #3 overdue about a week, and #4 due in June)…a copywriter by profession who opened my own itty bitty ad agency when I was laid off about 2 years ago. Am also the daughter of an artist – but my art talent is ehhhh….

Am passionate about: my family, my dogs (currently 3 – a 14 year old basset hound, a 4 month old basset hound and a 6 year old cocker spaniel), my Phillies and all shapes, sizes and colors of beads.

What is your favorite craft to make and why?

Wire-wrapping jewelry. It allows me to mix and match colors, textures and shapes of different beads and metals. Although I have a strong preference for silver and copper. Right now, I have about 3,000 beads – and I keep buying more! My goal is to find new ways to use them in different kinds of organic jewelry.

Who got you involved in crafts?

I took one wire wrapping class at Bead Fest Philly – an absolutely huge jewelry making event held each year. Thousands upon thousands of people come to take classes and shop the hundreds of vendor booths. I was amazed that I could actually walk away with a bracelet I would want to wear after one class!

Do you have an Etsy shop? If so, what is the name?

My shop is called Fat Dog Beads which was named in honor of my pudgy pups…and because almost everything I make involves beads in one way or another

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I would really like to master the art of making my own lampwork beads. I am just getting into soldering…(though have a loooooooog way to go)…and could see me popping my creations into my own little kiln. I do not see myself working at this full time – ever. Because I always want it to be fun and exciting – not a job

What advise would you give to other crafters?

Take as many classes as you can afford. Look constantly at others’ work – not to copy it – but to figure out how it was made…and then put your own spin on it. Don’t undersell your talents or your hard work. Help all those who ask for it – and hope that others will help you too.

Newest Listings – Vintage Patterns

10 Jan

Just listed tons of Vintage Patterns in my etsy shop. I have a selection of Vintage Patterns that range from 1950s to present day. I also have a wide range of patterns including clothing patterns for misses, men, juniors, and toddlers. There are even patterns for draperies, pillows, and general crafts. With Vintage Patterns you are able to add a retro vintage accents to your room without paying the vintage price. Also since you are creating it yourself, you also get the handmade quality that you can not find in stores.

Some of these patterns I inherited while others I have collected over the years. Instead of using these Vintage Patterns for the actual pattern pieces, you could frame the pattern pieces for a cool conversation piece in your craft room. Pattern pieces could also be used for scrapbooking or even decoupaging.

Looking for inexpensive vintage patterns? Check out my $1.00 pattern section. This is one of the newest sections in my shop. All of the patterns in this section are ONLY $1.00! Perfect for your first sewing projects when you want to practice creating your first outfit.

Feature Seller – Wire Bazaar

2 Jan

Hello my name is Benessa. I enjoy all things crafty, reading writing.. pretty much everything right brained. I love working on wire wrapping rings and necklaces whenever my 20month old son lets me.

What is your favorite craft to make and why?

Wire wrapped rings are my favorite to make though I really love the necklaces I have created aswell. I don’t get out much so it’s nice to have something craft to do that I really enjoy and the possibilities are endless.

Who got you involved in crafts?

One day I just woke up and decided I’m going to do wire wrapping. My husband was skeptical at first but now helps picking out my beads and wire!

Do you have an Etsy shop? If so, what is the name?

Yes, Wire Bazaar.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I hope to have a stable income from jewelry making and a better workplace with lots of beads and wire. Year by year I hope to just gradually increase my skills with wire wrapping and have my family push me forward every step of the way.

What advise would you give to other crafters?

Keep at it and dont give up. When you find yourself running low on new creative ideas just open your mind and eyes and take in whats around you. I often feel like I can’t possibly think of a new ring/necklace design but the moment I stop stressing about it so much, an idea (or 5!) come rushing in 🙂
